Where do cars get their energy from? For most cars, the answer is petrol.
But some cars use electricity. These cars have special motors that get their
power from large batteries. There are some cars that have two motors: an
electric motor and a petrol motor. These types of cars are called hybrid cars.
Most people think of electric cars are new but they have been around for a
long time. The ideas about electric cars were popular in the late 19th and
early 20th centuries because there was not any technology for petrol motors.
Interest in electric cars was high in the 1970s and 1980s because oil became
very expensive. Recently, electric cars have again become popular because
people want cars that don’t pollute the environment.
One negative thing about electric cars is that they are very expensive.
Electric cars run on batteries, just like a mobile phone does. But they need
special places for charge. Another problem is that electric cars cannot travel
as far as normal cars. Some people are afraid that the battery will run out of
electricity (and the car will stop) before they reach their place.
Despite these problems, many ordinary people and industry experts think
that the number of electric cars will get bigger in the future.
